Week 1 Term 4

And just like that we are heading into term 4! This year has gone so fast, Christmas will be here before we know it.

This term is already starting to look very busy with camp, labour weekend, big day out, float decorating etc. Keep an eye on the school newsletters to keep up to date with the events. If your child doesn't bring home a newsletter then you can find them on the Blaketown School website.

Don't forget you can also see what is happening in Room Four on our class site. Click the link to have a look.

We are all looking forward to another busy but exciting term!

Week 7 Term 3

We have all had a great start back to school, the tiredness is definitely starting to kick in for most. I would like to say a huge thank you and congratulations to all of my children. You have all done so well coming back into school, adapting to our new learning environment and getting back into our normal school routine. I know some of you have found this a little tricky, you have all done so well.

We have had so many exciting learning activities this week.

We have created a self portrait on Minecraft, have a look at some of our work!

We then decided to do the same again but this time using pen, paper and blocks like on Minecraft. We will post images once we have finished.

In writing we have been writing speeches. Some of us were very nervous about presenting a one minute impromptu speech but we were all resilient and completed the task. There were only a few ums and errs.

Have a great weekend Room Four! I look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

Level 2 - Week 7 Term 3

I can't wait to see all of the smiling faces of the Children tomorrow. It has been such a long time since I saw them all in person.

I want to say a huge thank you to the parents/caregivers/families who have supported their children in their online learning over this lockdown. You have made a huge impact on your children, you should be very proud of the effort you have put in and your achievement. I also want to say thank you for supporting myself. The kind emails and offers of help were very greatly appreciated.

Well done to you all Room Four. I know some of you found lockdown tough but you were resilient. You displayed the school values every day. You should be so proud of yourselves, I am proud of you! You have remained kind to one another, you have been bounce back kids and most of you have completed your online learning to a high standard.

I am so excited to see you all tomorrow!

Blog Profile - Week 8 Term 2

Hello! My name is Kayleigh and I am the year 5 and 6 Teacher at Blaketown School. I studied to be a teacher at the University of Otago. I have been teaching for seven years, I absolutely love it!

My inspirations are my previous teachers from when I was at primary school. These teachers inspired me to become a teacher. I am very grateful for everything they taught me and the care they showed me.

My goals for this year is to incorporate Minecraft and more digital learning into my teaching. In my previous years teaching, this came easy to me however having taken 1.5 years off, I have missed new skills and am now trying to catch up and learn new skills to teach my children.

Today we have been learning about making a safe blog profile. Down the side of our class blog you will find our individual blogs. We would love for you to read them and learn a little more about us. We are a fantastic bunch of kids who have lots of fun together!

Rocky Shore Visit - Week 8

What a fabulous learning experience the children got to have today. We are so lucky we have such amazing places so close to home.

The children had so much fun exploring the rocky shore.

We found so many sea creatures hiding within the rocks, we experienced the coldness of the water, the feeling of the waves coming and going, sand in between our toes and so much more.
It was so good to see the whole school having a wonderful time together and helping one another. We cannot wait for the next outdoor learning experience.

Visual Mihi - Week 7

Room 4 children and Miss McGeady are so proud of the effort that went into our visual mihi boards. They look absolutely amazing. This was a very long process but the time definitely paid off. They look fantastic on our wall.

We would love for you to come in and take a look.

Physical Education - Week 6

We are so pleased the sun is shining so we can enjoy practicing moving at different speeds. During physical education today we learnt how we can change our moving speed from walking to sprinting in a safe manner. Our aim is to move around an area, increasing and decreasing speed in response to the instructions Miss McGeady gives us. Some of us found it difficult to change speed and listen to instructions. It was even harder when a bean bag was added that we had to throw to a partner while moving and changing speed or direction. So many different aspects to think about all at once!

We thought carefully about the following questions:

  • When might you have to accelerate in a game?

  • When might you have to slow down in a game?

  • Why is it important to maintain stability when we are changing speed?

Duffy Show - Week 5

Today we had Duffy come a preform a show for us. It was all about the struggles of online learning and level 4 lockdown. I love how the show related so well to the world we are currently living in. It was great to see all the struggles that we have during lockdown and how they can turn into positive outcomes! Duffy certainly made the most of his level 4 lockdown and gave us some handy tips for if we have to go into level 4 again.

Ollie came and enjoyed the show with us, he really enjoyed it but found it a little loud!

Deano Yipadee Author Online - Week 4

What an experience we had today! We had the absolute pleasure of having a zoom call with the author Deano Yipadee. He was so energetic and got all children up singing and dancing. We had a whole school party with Deano on the guitar and us singing his songs with him. We are so pleased that we still get to have these amazing experiences even during lockdown.

Thank you Deano Yipadee for going the extra mile and making sure our children don't miss out on these experience, we are really lucky!

You might want to turn your volume down for the following video!
